Inspired by the architecture of Halle Nord's Capsule 1 - a bay window transformed into a shop window in a succession of vaults and arcades - Ligia Dias indexes the storefront device. To this end, the word "Promesses" is painted in gold leaf like a store sign. A precious contrast to the objects on the floor. The familiar yet confusing, indiscriminately mixed ensemble is extended by its presentation in bulk, which evokes the radical sculptural gestures of the 1960s, what postminimalism has called "scatter", an art of dispersion.
As Ligia Dias points out, "elements of my artistic vocabulary (...) can be found here: pearls, chains, ribbons, books, leftovers of my productions, found and discarded objects." Remnants of the past, inheritances, good and bad memories that the artist imagines as future productions. Each element that makes up this sparkling and informative accumulation is like a mantra that drives her artistic practice.
Previously, the artist has challenged the way in which today's society hierarchizes objects according to a system of value. She recently presented ANTONI (2021), a trailer net ornamented with a multitude of precious or found objects, which combines the prestigious crystal chandelier with the vide-poche. Or ARNAUD (vide-poche) (2020), which, as the title informs us, is a collection of personal artifacts assembled into a common object entitled after the first name of one of her friends. With the site-specific LYNDA, which juxtaposes flea-market bulk cardboard and Luxury, Ligia Dias interweaves the messy and the precious, the equivalent and the unique, and once again challenges us on the cultural question of the social organization of objects, whether functional, decorative or ornamental.
